[??1634?????]

In case there are civillians somewhere out there alive, I require information ASAP regarding the current situation. What year is it? What happened to Manhattan? (Warzone? If so, what parties are involved?)

The current year is 2008. The destruction is the cumulative effect of several rampages from a gigantic creature. The origin of the creature is unknown.
What?

Creature? Bipedal? Organic or robotic?
The creature is bipedal, organic, and very large. Also of note are smaller parasites, roughly man-sized, with multiple legs and a tendency to bite. Their relation to the creature is unknown, but I am attempting to capture and study one.
...That sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Are you absolutely sure it's not robotic?

The year can't be right either.
While nothing is certain, several signs, including its reaction to being attacked, indicate that it is organic. Additionally, if it were robotic, it likely would have short-circuited upon entering the water.

Calendars, paper and computerized, indicate that the year is in fact 2008.

There was a wild party. Frat boys and all.

Shame you had to miss it. Real hootenanny, that was.
Yeah, what a shame. Looks like it was fun for all people involved. Mind telling me who they were?
Sorry. Overexcited college students aren't exactly what you'd call memorable.
Aren't we being humorous.
Don't be fooled. On the inside, I'm sobbing up a flood.

Some sort of...monster attacked Manhattan. Trust me, I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't actually seen the things up close.

Have you gotten somewhere safe?
...Monster. I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this. Unless I'm having some weird dream about Godzilla.

...Not sure. What's considered 'safe territory' here?
If there is one, I don't know it.

Well...just about everywhere is dangerous to some degree, I suppose. Definitely avoid Central Park and the Subways.
I see. What about those 'parasites' somebody else told me about?
You don't want to get bit by them, I know that much.

Monsters happened to poor little Manhattan. And if you don't wanna get killed you'll stay sharp~
So I heard.

With so many people saying the same thing, I suppose it must be true.
'course it's true. Would I lie to you?
I don't even know you. I don't know if I can trust anybody around here.
Smart man. I might even give a shit if you die.
...Charming.

Ha...! Every time I hear someone explain it it gets a little bit stranger-- the same way the Godot #107 tastes a little different every time you take a sip.
Sounds like you're used to this already.
Well, it's been a little while. Mankind is notable mostly for its ability to adapt.
You mean losing hope and giving up.
